Sashimi Tacos

Sashimi tacos matched with sake shots, scampi tempura and wagyu beef are just a few of the highlights from Ebisu’s new summer menu.

Ideal for sharing or enjoying on your own, the sophisticated new dishes from the contemporary Japanese restaurant in Auckland’s Britomart Precinct have all been created with summer in mind.

General manager of Ebisu Brendan Turner says the new menu has been carefully crafted by sushi master Yukio Ozeki and head chef Murray Wiblin to combine punchy flavours and fresh ingredients.

“My favourite new dish is the scampi tempura. This is a beautiful combination of cooked scampi in the lightest of tempura, with a ponzu and dashi broth.

“To lift these subtle flavours, we combine with a gorgeous accompaniment of finely sliced red onion, coriander and jalapeno,” says Turner. “It’s delectable.”

Other highlights include:

  • Seared scallops with pickled green apple and jalapeno garlic dressing
  • Sashimi tacos with jalapeno, salsa and lime
  • Broadbill fish with white miso, grilled asparagus and green tomato ponzu

“We continually strive to keep the menu fresh and interesting for our customers,” adds Turner.

“We’ve kept all of the favourites from the original menu such as chicken karaage and new style sashimi – we wouldn’t dare take these off especially when they complement the new items so perfectly.”

Ebisu, the name of one of the seven lucky gods in Japan, is open Monday to Friday midday until late and Saturday and Sunday from 5pm until late. To view the new summer menu go to
