Artistic baristas creating masterpieces from espresso and creamy, foamy milk will compete at the New Zealand Latte Art Championship next weekend.
Faces, flowers and fleur-de-lis are set to adorn lattes in the annual competition that challenges baristas from across the country to produce creative lattes.
Judges will be looking for visual attributes, creativity, identical patterns when in pairs, contrast in patterns and overall performance.
The winner of the NZ Latte Art Championship will win flights and accommodation to compete at the World Latte Art Championship in Melbourne, Australia in May.
All participants will receive a certificate, goodie bag and feedback on their individual performances. The top three will be awarded trophies and finalist certificates, as well as recognition on the New Zealand Barista Guild and New Zealand Coffee Roasters Association websites, social media and a mention in BeanScene magazine.
It’s on at Food for Thought Café, Massey University – Albany Campus on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 April, free entry. Applications to compete in the New Zealand Latte Art Championship are still open and can be made at www.nzcra.org.
