The Wellington Culinary Events Trust (WCET) has appointed Sarah Meikle as its new Chief Executive, effective 3 April 2014.
The trust is over the moon to have Sarah at the helm and working as the Festival Director for New Zealand’s largest and tastiest culinary event – Visa Wellington On a Plate (VWOAP), says WCET Chair Rachel Taulelei.
“In addition to working as General Manager Marketing for Positively Wellington Tourism (PWT) for over six years, Ms Meikle has co-directed VWOAP since its inception. She has been instrumental in making the event the coolest little culinary festival in the world.”
Since the inaugural festival in 2009, DINE Wellington participation has increased over 150% and the Festival Events programme has grown over 270%.
Ms Meikle says she was honoured to be taking up the role of Chief Executive with WCET and looks forward to building on VWOAP’s success thus far.
“With support from the trust, I hope to expand the festival offering, attract more out-of-town visitors to the 17-day event, and develop further opportunities to support Wellington’s culinary offer 365 days per year.”
PWT Chief Executive David Perks congratulated Ms Meikle on her new appointment and believes her commitment to the growth of VWOAP and demonstrable passion for Wellington make her the perfect fit.
Prior to joining PWT in 2007, Ms Meikle spent just under 10 years with Tourism New Zealand in marketing roles in London and Wellington, as well as establishing their marketing offices in Mumbai and Dubai.
