The team behind Dilmah Tea in New Zealand has won the coveted Global Distributors Award at the Dilmah 6th Global Distributors Conference recently held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Presented by Dilmah founder Merrill J Fernando, the award was given to Dilmah NZ Ltd and Cerebos Gregg’s Ltd in recognition of continued growth within a mature market. Launched in New Zealand in 1989, Dilmah Tea, soon became the tea of choice for many Kiwis following Merrill J Fernando`s invitation to “Do try it”.
This is the third time the Global Distributors Award has been presented to the New Zealand team—a considerable effort, as Dilmah is distributed in more than 100 countries.
Nigel Scott, general manager of Dilmah NZ, says the team has New Zealand tea drinkers to thank. Dilmah has remained as number one in the black tea category for a long time.
“Kiwis get it that Dilmah is grown, picked and packed at source, as a single origin tea it is one of the freshest in the world and that Merrill has created an ethical company that shares its profits with a wide range of people and in environmental projects in Sri Lanka and internationally, like Hospice here in New Zealand,” Mr Scott says.
“While our Dilmah Premium (our flagship) remains our best seller, we actually have a wide range of other black teas, black flavoured teas, green teas and herbal and fruit infusions on the shelf.”
The award announcement coincides with the recent release of Dilmah tea capsules in Earl Grey and English Breakfast varieties, as well as two exciting variants of Exceptional Ceylon Spice Chai tea and Exceptional Natural Lemon Verbena Infusion, along with an upcoming Organics range launch.
