Outstanding Chef finalist Craig Martin, Peppers on the Point

Finalists in the Rotorua Hospitality Awards took part in live judging on Saturday.

Waiariki Institute of Technology hosted the event with 12 local hospitality professionals taking part.

Sharon Wallace, Rotorua Branch President of the Restaurant Association of NZ was excited at the calibre of talent on show.

“The live judging is a thrilling new addition to the awards with all of the finalists doing local industry proud. Finalists had to create examples of their work with the emerging and outstanding chefs required to create dishes from a mystery box of ingredients.

The judging panels were made up of renowned industry professionals and included multi award winning chef Stephen Barry from Mount Bistro and Brad McGlynn from the Chateau Tongariro,” she said.

This is the third year for the awards which were created to further enhance the local and visitor experience in the Rotorua hospitality industry. The live judging scores make up part of the final score with all finalists also being mystery shopped.

The winners will be announced at the awards evening held at the Rotorua Convention Centre on Sunday, 29 June. Details on the event, voting and a link to tickets can be found at www.rotoruaawards.co.nz
